Schmoop! n.4!!!

From "Bad Day" to "Nightmare" - I'm getting all my icky ones out of the way. ALSO - Sage, forgot to tell you earlier that your story makes me want to know more about that series. <3

I returned a bit to Future AU in a way with this one, but did it so that it was MUCH happier for Lynn and Reed, and the moment that they should have had.

Enjoy! :D

Lynn woke suddenly. The room was dark and the sheets stuck to her arms and legs. It took her a moment to realize that there were too many blankets on her, and she shoved them off to let cooler air in. The moment felt a little deja-vu. The last time she had woken up abruptly from a bad dream was the night years ago when she had battled that shark.

She wasn’t prone to nightmares, but when she did have them, they generally sucked. This one was no exception. It was startlingly vivid, and she swore she could feel tightness in her chest, a pain in her left eye, and stinging in her arm. But the stinging was from laying on it wrong - the pins and needles were apparent now. The tightness in her chest - that must have been the blankets. Her eye was fine - maybe it was just a product of not being able to see within the dream.

She lay for a few minutes, then turned over and snuggled up to Reed’s back. She probably wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep, but contented herself with laying there with her eyes closed, counting with her inhales and exhales. She tried to pick up the scattered pieces of the dream to analyze in her mind, and the bits she did remember made her glad that the rest of it was fading fast.

Reed stirred. This time she didn’t feel bad for having brought him out of sleep.

“You awake?” she whispered in his ear, pulling herself closer to kiss the back of his neck.

If he wasn’t already, he was now. Reed rolled over sleepily and put his arms around her. “Yeah, a little. Why are you up?”

“I had a really horrible dream,” she admitted.

“That sucks. What happened?”

“Not sure - I was in this place... a facility... I think I had been kidnapped or something. They kept doing these tests on me, and trying to get me to give information on where they could find everyone else.” Lynn shuddered. “They kept giving me these drugs that controlled my powers and doing all sorts of fucked up experiments on me.”

Reed didn’t say anything, and she continued, other snippets of the dreams surfacing as she described the dream. “I think that Mara and Tasha came and rescued me... or was it Dusty instead of Tasha? I can’t remember...”

“Where was I?”

Lynn thought for a second. “You were there waiting for me to come back. The people, though... I think they did something so that you weren’t able to heal me. And it was really really horrible.” She nuzzled her head against his, suddenly feeling guilty for having dreamt it in the first place, as if it were somehow her fault.

Reed ran his hand up and down her back. “Sounds like it.” He hesitated a moment, then found her lips in the dark. It was a soft and reassuring kiss, and when Lynn opened her eyes, she could make his out in the dark. “If someone ever tried to take you away, I don’t think they’d get very far before I’d come after you. Not to mention that you’d break their kneecaps.”

Lynn giggled. “Yeah, you’re right. And your healing track record has been sterling so far.” She kissed him again, feeling better already. With everything that they’d gone through so far, she thought as their kisses shifted from reassurance to a physical need, they could totally take on whatever lay in their futures, so long as they were together.

NYC this weekend! Will get some writing done, but I don't know how much I'll really be able to stick to that wish. :D Definitely will be able to on the train, though! <3
